Dynamical Diophantine Approximation

چکیده
Let μ be a Gibbs measure of the doubling map T of the circle. For a μ-generic point x and a given sequence {rn} ⊂ R, consider the intervals (T x − rn (mod 1), T x + rn (mod 1)). In analogy to the classical Dvoretzky covering of the circle we study the covering properties of this sequence of intervals. This study is closely related to the local entropy function of the Gibbs measure and to hitting times for moving targets. A mass transference principle is obtained for Gibbs measures which are multifractal. Such a principle was shown by Beresnevich and Velani [BV] only for monofractal measures. In the symbolic language we completely describe the combinatorial structure of a typical relatively short sequence, in particular we can describe the occurrence of ”atypical” relatively long words. Our results have a direct and deep number-theoretical interpretation via inhomogeneous diadic diophantine approximation by numbers belonging to a given (diadic) diophantine class.

Diophantine Exponents of Measures: a Dynamical Approach
We place the theory of metric Diophantine approximation on manifolds into a broader context of studying Diophantine properties of points generic with respect to certain measures on Rn. The correspondence between multidimensional Diophantine approximation and dynamics of lattices in Euclidean spaces is discussed in an elementary way, and several recent results obtained by means of this correspon...
متن کاملApproximation and Billiards
This survey is based on a series of talks I gave at the conference “Dynamical systems and diophantine approximation” at l’Instut Henri Poincaré in June 2003. I will present asymptotic results (transitivity, ergodicity, weak-mixing) for billiards based on the approximation technique developed by Katok and Zemlyakov. I will also present approximation techniques which allow to prove the abundance ...

Heights are functions that measure the arithmetic complexity of an algebraically defined object. They have become a major tool in many branches of number theory such as Diophantine analysis, transcendental number theory, Diophantine approximation, arithmetic of dynamical systems, etc. Moreover, they have also some very subtle functorial and functional properties, making it worthwile to study th...
متن کاملKhinchin Theorem for Integral Points on Quadratic Varieties
We prove an analogue the Khinchin theorem for the Diophantine approximation by integer vectors lying on a quadratic variety. The proof is based on the study of a dynamical system on a homogeneous space of the orthogonal group. We show that in this system, generic trajectories visit a family of shrinking subsets infinitely often.
